Wildfire Series

Wildfire, 2025 shown at Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London

Leading up to the LA Wildfires I was painting extreme weather conditions from home Webcams, and oddly luminous sunsets seen across London streetscapes, so the fires encroaching LA homes and filling news media immediate connected with my longstanding interest in places and their vibe, the past visible in the present, and a questioning of modernist values of which I am a product, futures which didn’t quite work out according to The Dream.

I am highly influenced by the changing seasons, the ability of nature to quietly take over and the immersive experience of being submerged in nature.

Killing me Softly

Observing nature as I cycle to the studio in Stratford, East London. It is also informed by scrolling news media, filtered through the subjectivity of a mature female city-dweller 2 generations from rural living.  The work is attentive to micro-seasonality and changes in the Anthropocene, whether real or imagined, elevating things not used to being looked at. Inspired by Powell and Pressberger’s film Black Narcissus, in which nuns in the Himalayas are driven mad by the wind.
